History
Welcome to Abiding Word Lutheran Church
In 2010, a small group of people came together and began talking about forming a Lutheran Church in Brenham that would abide by the Word of the Lord. In the early summer of 2011, meetings were held to determine how many people might be interested in becoming a part of this church. Plans continued throughout the summer. An altar, a pulpit, and baptismal font were built and ready for the first service of Abiding Word Lutheran Church on October 2, 2011, in the VIP Building at the Fairgrounds. Our first members were received at our service on November 27. By the end of 2011, we had 59 members. Pastor Martin Moore officiated his first service at Abiding Word on Maundy Thursday, March 29, 2012. We continued to grow throughout the years, moving to Calvary Baptist Church in 2012 where that congregation shared their facilities with us until we moved into our new building on August 20, 2017. We held a dedication service on October 1, 2017, 6 years after the first service at Abiding Word.

We’re proud of our progress, but a church is more than a building. It is a congregation of people. It is a place where the people who come together in it go out and share the Word and serve others in the community. It is a place where members volunteer to help in the Worship Service in many ways: serving as ushers, readers, lay ministers, communion assistants, musicians, and serving on the audio/visual team. It is the young people playing in the nursery, learning about Jesus in Sunday School, and being excited to sit on the altar steps and listen and participate in the Children’s Sermon. It is a place where the women get together to learn more about the Bible and to prepare food for our many social events. It is the men gathering for their monthly Breakfast. It is our soup and sandwiches before Lent Service. It is all the committees that work hard to provide the needs of a growing congregation. We at Abiding Word open our arms and hearts to those who enter our doors. We share our joys and sorrows with each other. We care, we share, we love each other and worship with each other. All of these things make Abiding Word Lutheran Church a wonderful place to worship!
Pr. Moore left our church in September of 2021, and we soon began our search for our second pastor. At the end of February of 2022, Pr. Cody Mills accepted our call; he officiated his first service at AWLC on May 15, 2022.
